I’ve missed you

Oh, my little public records blog, I’ve missed you. Some of you may remember that I started this blog back in January 2010 as a way to document and share my love of public records, especially in my work as a journalist.

I wrote about everything – the FBI’s files on Marilyn Monroe and Jesse Helms, autopsies, 911 calls, tracking down Paula Deen’s house and the time I played tug of war over a document with an unhappy school official.

About a month after I began writing, I lost my youngest brother, Kenneth. I wrote about losing him and how I knew he would want me to continue, even though blogging was the last thing on my mind at the time. I continued writing for several more months before eventually letting it go.

Nearly four years (and many public records experiences) later, I’m finally ready to start again. I have so many stories to share – good, bad, sad, scary, funny, etc. We’ll get to those later. For now, I’m just proud of myself for coming back and starting anew. This coming Monday, Feb. 24, would have been my brother’s 28th birthday. It also marks four years since he died. I miss him every single day. I just hope I can make him proud.
